Journal :: Nationwide Building Society Consumer Confidence Survey

The latest Nationwide Building Society Consumer Confidence Survey shows 41% of the people in the UK realise they will not have enough income in retirement. A further 13% are unsure whether or not they will have enough. This means over half the population know they ought to be getting advice on their retirement planning.

Another recent survey showed 90% of employees would be interested in receiving a benefits package from their employer rather than taking all their remuneration as salary. This package could certainly include a company pension ? for example a CIMPS (contracted in money purchase scheme).

What these two surveys tell me is that there is an enormous market out there for IFAs who are skilled in retirement planning. Yes it is true that very many clients and potential clients are very wary about investing in pensions when they see ?doom and gloom? reports about the stock market. But that simply means they need your advice even more.

It is very easy to lose the enthusiasm we all once had when we first joined the industry. So many of our colleagues are far too pessimistic ? especially when it comes to selling pensions. And the more you listen to their negative comments the more likely you are to join them.

IFAs who have joined the Adviser Breakthrough Programme have turned their backs on all this negativity and are reaping the reward of substantial increases in their income.
