Journal :: VAT Planning

Sometimes advisers ask me why I do not get involved in VAT planning. Well, for one I don?t like the idea of doing anything to upset one of the two agencies in the country that has the power to burst through my door at any hour of the day or night without a by your leave, and without a court order ? and I try not to do anything to upset our gallant firemen either!

But if there were any remaining doubt, perhaps this quote from an accountancy website will remove it:

?It is my understanding that "cold" takeaway sandwiches from a cafe CAN be zero rated. I think the phrase "ambient temperature" is referred to in any dispute on what qualifies for zero rating. I think the sandwich qualifies for zero rating if sold at or below the "ambient temperature". If sold warmed up, then this has to be for reasons other than making the sandwich more appetising if it is to be zero rated.?

Still fancy VAT planning? Well, not for me, even though I don?t dispute there are plenty of advisers making good money doing it!
